Tip #4 - Realistic timeframes
COVID-19 has impacted the construction industry greatly. There is currently a timber and steel supply shortage, a backlog due to lockdowns, a labour shortage and an increase in demand for construction work.
These factors are increasing the timeframes for both commencing and completing works.
Timeframes for obtaining some materials has increased from 3 weeks to 3 months, which is making it difficult to schedule works and stick to building timeframes.
Increased demand also leads to greater delays in obtaining architectural drawings, plans, permits and other certifications.
Our tip is to be organised, be prepared for a wait and book your job in early. Don’t wait until the renovation becomes urgent before starting the process.
In the current environment, it is unrealistic to expect new works to be undertaken and completed in a month(s). If you are wishing to commence a new renovation, extension or build, then a realistic timeframe before works can commence would currently be 12 months.
