Tip #1 - Take time to plan
JDMC Constructions owner, Justin McGuane’s number 1 advice is to take the time to consider what you want to achieve from your renovation. Before engaging the services of a builder, you need to already have an idea of what you wish the result of your renovation to look like.
For example, are you going to alter the layout of the room, extend the space, remove any walls, or move the room to another area of the house? Have you thought about what materials you would like to use in your build? Timber, render, brick, tiles, stone etc.
There are many ways to gather ideas for a renovation. Take photos of things that you like, cut out pictures from magazines, research designs on the internet and discuss ideas with your family and friends.
Having a basic idea of your renovation goals can save a lot of time in the initial stages of a renovation, which can assist in getting your renovation started and completed quicker as well as saving you money if you are engaging the services of an architect or draftsman.
